Defiance will be looking for a football coach for the second time in as many Julys, as Aaron Mershman has stepped down to take a Division III assistant coaching job.

The Yellow Jackets, who promoted Mershman last July when Casey Goff left to take the TCNJ head coaching job, went 2-8 last season.

Mershman, who was 26 when last season opened, will be offensive line coach at Misericordia.

"In conversations with the president (Richanne Mankey), we understand the importance that a quality football program has on a campus and on a community," said athletic director Jodie Holava. "We will work diligently and thoughtfully as we find our next leader to mold a culture of excellence for our young men."

Defiance has posted the job as a 10-month position, rather than a full-time, year-round position.
