In some places it was lightning. Elsewhere, it was standing water on the field. And in western New York, it was just a bunch of overtimes. There were a number of long games in Week 7 in Division III, and it's likely nobody was happier to have the waiting end than St. John Fisher, which defeated Utica 39-36 in five overtimes to pick up its first win of the season.

Maki Medici hit four overtime field goals for Utica, helping the Pioneers continue to extend the game, including a long of 39 yards in the fifth overtime. But St. John Fisher, which completed just five of 19 passes, kept the ball on the ground in the final extra session and James Chambers found his way to the end zone on a 10-yard run to get the winning score and set off the celebration. The Cardinals entered the day 0-6, including three losses to teams currently in the D3football.com Top 25.
A simple one-overtime game seems easy by comparison, and for Plymouth State it surely was, as the Panthers continued their surprising season by knocking off Framingham State 16-13 in overtime. Framingham's first loss came at the foot of Jeremy Martin, who connected from 22 yards in overtime for the winning margin. Zakery Walker completed 34 of 47 passes but the Plymouth State defense merely bent. Plymouth State improved to 5-1, 3-1 in the MASCAC.
In a game delayed multiple times by weather, Millikin was able to get a good snap, hold and kick with 61 seconds left and win 28-27 at Augustana with a 27-yard field goal by Ben Spelman, the first field goal of his collegiate career. The contest, which took on the order of five hours to complete, saw Augustana respond with two big plays to get down to the 5-yard line, but after being knocked back by a penalty, a 40-yard field goal attempt with two seconds left sailed wide right. At the time of one fourth-quarter interruption, Millikin (5-1, 3-1 CCIW) trailed 27-19. But Nicco Stepina found Jordan Smith for a 27-yard touchdown with 7:33 left in the game, and hit Gerald Perry for two big plays -- his only two catches of the day -- on the final scoring drive, which covered 67 yards on 11 plays. Augustana, which had led 20-7, fell to 1-6, 1-4.
Williams' surprising season continues as well, as freshman quarterback Bobby Maimaron ran for a touchdown and threw for two, this one on the final play of the game to lift the Ephs past Middlebury 27-26.

TCNJ picked up its first win of the season as well, and its first under head coach Corey Goff, with a 20-14 win at archrival Rowan. The Lions scored the first 20 points and the defense held on just long enough for the win. Rowan, which started the season 3-0, has lost three in a row and managed just 245 yards of offense. Trevor Osler went 25-of-32 passing for 340 yards and three touchdowns in the win for TCNJ.
John Carroll continues to slide, falling to 3-3 after Ohio Northern won 27-20 in double overtime. A week after rushing for 407 yards vs. Capital, Christiaan Williams followed up with 212 yards on 31 carries for the Polar Bears. ONU drove into JCU territory four times with the game tied in the fourth quarter, but were not able to score. Sacks forced punts on the first and third trips and a missed 50-yard field goal thwarted the second opportunity. On its fourth possession, Ohio Northern drove to the JCU 7-yard line with nine seconds left in the game but missed a 24-yard field goal wide left which sent the game into overtime.
Down 17-7 as the fourth quarter approached, DePauw scored the final 19 points of the game and rallied to defeat Denison 26-17. The win lifted the Tigers to 6-0, the second time they've done so since Bill Lynch returned as head coach of the program in 2013.
Sewanee equaled its win total of the past three seasons combined, picking up its third victory of the season in a 34-13 win at Birmingham-Southern. The Tigers scored 24 unanswered points to break open a 7-7 game. Corey Creeger threw for 117 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 212 yards and another score as Maine Maritime picked up its first win of the season in impressive fashion, defeating Coast Guard 34-16. The Mariners intercepted three passes and sacked Bears quarterback Ryan Jones five times in the win. Huntingdon won its sixth game in a row after a Week 1 loss, defeating Maryville 28-16.
Tucker Newman picked off three passes as Union had an easy time of it in a 27-0 win at Rochester. In the past week, Yellowjackets coach Scott Greene announced he was stepping down at the end of the season and one of his former assistants, Dan Kyle, filed a lawsuit against the school over comments a spokeswoman made in a story on ESPN's Outside the Lines. The story was regarding the robbery and torture of two former Rochester players in retaliation for an assault comitted by former Yellow Jackets linebacker Isaiah Smith. Union improved to 6-1.
Southwestern became the latest team to rack up big numbers vs. Belhaven, as the Pirates picked up 689 yards in a 60-31 win. Frederick Hover threw for 211 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 201 yards and two more.
