McMurry players arrested on murder charges

McMurry players Ryan McBeth and Dontrell Dock were arrested Wednesday, Jan. 25, in conjunction with a shooting death on Jan. 11 in Fort Worth, Texas, and a third player, starting quarterback B.J. Ross, was arrested the following day.

According to local media reports, officers found Chris-Dion Russell with a gunshot wound at a Fort Worth apartment complex. He was pronounced dead at a hospital. 

The pair were taken into custody on the morning of Jan. 25 and have been charged with capital murder.

Ross led the War Hawks in both rushing and passing yards as a freshman quarterback this past season. McBeth had three interceptions, while Dock got 18 carries as a reserve running back for McMurry.

The school issued the following statement to media: "McMurry University is aware of a reported incident involving three of its students and is cooperating with authorities. As the incident involves students' personal educational records, we are not at liberty to discuss the matter further."
