Around the Nation Podcast: New faces the reason for excitement

You’ve been asking for this for years, haven’t you? John Carroll and UW-Oshkosh advanced to the national semifinals, meaning there will be at least one team in the Stagg Bowl for the first time. And Mount Union survived an offensive shootout at Alfred, meaning the defending champs are still alive, with a trip to face the No. 1 team in the offing. Pat and Keith talk through it all, plus preview the semifinal games, in this week’s Around the Nation Podcast.

This week’s podcast is sponsored by the City of Salem, hosts of Stagg Bowl XLIV. For more information about the Stagg Bowl or any national championship Salem hosts, visit salemchampionships.com.

The Around the Nation Podcast is a weekly conversation between Pat Coleman and Keith McMillan covering the wide range of Division III football. It drops on Monday morning weekly throughout the season.

  1. Wheaton’s decision to switch QB’s against UMHB was based on injury. There is nothing that the coaching staff will regret about making “a decision to change QB’s”. Bowers had broken & dislocated ribs which occurred late in the NCC game. He could not play. Peltz is the 2nd string QB, so he played.

  2. Great podcast and work by group at D3 guys this year. I think this is Cru’s year – just a feeling this time around. John C. reminds me a little of of the “gauntlet” UW-W went through a few years ago – having to beat several top ranked teams to the championship. Not sure which year it was but I think it was when UW-W went through Texas and won 16-15. It appears John C. is young on offense which will allow them to make a run at this for at least this year and a strong run next year, too.

I am pulling for UW-O this weekend and love the dynamic pieces to their offense and the schemes they run. But John Carroll seems to be hitting their stride at the right time. I don’t see Mount getting back MHBU.
