Baldwin Wallace has announced that John Snell will join the athletic staff as assistant athletic director nand has resigned his position as head football coach.

Snell replaced Bob Packard as head coach for the 2002 season. The Yellow Jackets were 3-7 this past season, leaving Snell 92-60 for his career. That includes one trip to the NCAA playoffs, including a first-round playoff win in 2003.

The appointment of Snell to the athletic department post will support both the department and BW's more than 700 student athletes. Snell's new responsibilities will include NCAA compliance, as well as recruitment and retention.

"The University is grateful to John for his outstanding leadership and service to our student athletes, as well as our community, over his 23 years as an assistant and head coach," said Kris Diaz, BW director of athletics. "We look forward to the contributions he will make in this new capacity.

"A nationwide search for a new BW head football coach will begin immediately," Diaz continued. "We expect to attract a strong field of applicants and the success of our student athletes on the field, in the classroom and in life will guide our search."

Snell recently completed his 23rd season as a coach in the football program at his alma mater.

Prior to returning to his alma mater, Snell coached at Rochester (1987-88 and again from 1992-94), at Rutgers (1988-90) and Buffalo (1990-92). Snell is a native of Albion, N.Y., and graduated from Albion High School in 1983.
