Washington and Lee took the lead for the final time with 2:09 left in the game and the Generals' defense held on fourth-and-goal from the 1 with five seconds left as W&L remained undefeated with a 35-28 win at Hamdpen-Sydney. Kyree Koonce ran for 160 yards and a touchdown, but couldn't gain the 161st on the Tigers' final play. Connor Chess ran for 94 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winner, on just six carries. W&L is 5-0 for the first time since 1961.
Delaware Valley rallied to knock off previously unbeaten Stevenson as Tyler Bing scored a touchdown in the final minute to give the Aggies an 18-15 win. Bing's score was set up by a Stevenson fumble inside its own 35 with three minutes left. The teams combined for eight turnovers, two of them interceptions returned for touchdowns.
Gustavus Adolphus once again emerged from the early part of its schedule unscathed, improving to 6-0 with a 58-34 win vs. St. Olaf. Mitch Hendricks was 23-for-35 passing for the Gusties, with three of his five touchdown passes to Jake Douglas. Last year, the Gusties went 6-0 against the same six teams, then lost to St. John's, Bethel, Concordia-Moorhead and St. Thomas to finish the season 6-4.
St. Lawrence used two big plays in the first half and held on against a rally to defeat RPI 21-14. The Saints got a 59-yard touchdown run by Maurice Irby and a 77-yard scoring pass from Mike Lefflbine to Vincenzo Ferraro. St. Lawrence improved to 5-1 on the season, while RPI fell to 4-2.
Dominic Bona threw six touchdown passes, tying the school single-game record and becoming the program's career leader as Albion defeated Kalamazoo 72-40. He hit Joe Mayone on the first play of the game for a 64-yard touchdown and finished 29-for-42 for 325 yards. The Britons remain unbeaten at 5-0. Olivet remained unbeaten as well, defeating Trine 49-24 on the road behind a defense that limited the Thunder to just 46 rushing yards. Albright rolled over Wilkes 62-9 and stands alone as the only unbeaten member of the MAC at 5-0.
After four weeks of vaunted offense, it was the defense for Whitworth that came to play on Saturday as the Pirates delivered seven sacks to Puget Sound in a 24-7 win. Whitworth (5-0) ran 61 times on a windy and rainy day, the most under the current coaching staff. Also 5-0: Rose-Hulman John Kirby snagged an interception on a would-be game-winning two-point play by Bluffton with 15 seconds remaining in the game to secure a 28-27 win. The Fightin' Engineer defense forced five turnovers.
Logan Murphy had six tackles for loss, including four and a half sacks, as Ithaca bounced back from last week's loss to Utica and defeated Hartwick 47-19. "We rushed the quarterback well and I give props to Tijah and Peter Trathen. Without them rushing the quarterback from the other side I wouldn't have had as much luck getting to the quarterback. Today was definitely a coming out party for the defensive line."
Emory and Henry scored 28 unanswered points in the second and third quarter combined as Tyree Ward caught nine passes for 157 yards and three touchdowns in the Wasps' 31-7 win vs. Bridgewater. The Wasps improved to 4-1.
Chase Burton was a perfect 16-for-16 passing, throwing for 327 yards and six touchdowns as Franklin cruised past Earlham 80-19. The minimum number of completions required to set the Division III record in the category is 20.
Trinity (Conn.) has defeated Hamilton 21 consecutive times, but probably not with a score such as Saturday's 29-4 result. The Continentals got their points on a safety and a blocked extra point which Colby Jones returned for a defensive two-point conversion.
Michael Nicol's 3-yard touchdown run with nine seconds remaining lifted Western Connecticut to a wild 46-39 MASCAC football victory over Massachusetts Maritime. A game that featured a combined 192 plays from scrimmage and nearly 1,200 yards of total offense also saw the two teams exchange leads on nine occasions, including twice in the final 62 seconds of play.
