Roundup: ODAC gets wacky, Centre rolls, Luther falls

Cedrick Bridges picked off Guilford's Matt Pawlowski on the final play of the game and returned it for a touchdown. It's the first time Pawlowski has thrown three interceptions in a game and two of them were pick-sixes.

Shenandoah ended Guilford's unbeaten run and Emory and Henry beat Bridgewater in a battle of unbeatens as the ODAC got a little bit ODACky on Saturday afternoon.

Shenandoah jumped out to a 22-0 lead and held on against a comeback attempt to defeat Guilford 47-31 and hand the Quakers their first loss of the season. The Hornets picked off Matt Pawlowski three times and returned two of them for touchdowns, the second by Cedrick Bridges as time expired.

Emory and Henry kept its unbeaten run going, defeating Bridgewater 34-21 and handing the Eagles their first loss of the season. The last time the Wasps started the season 5-0 was in 1998. E&H went 10-0 that season and did not make the playoffs in the last year of the 16-team playoff bracket.

Nash Nance and Holton Walker have hooked up for touchdown passes dozens of times in their career. But on Saturday, it went the opposite direction as Walker, the receiver, threw a 31-yard TD pass to Nance as part of a 55-32 win at Washington and Lee.

Centre remained unbeaten, rolling over Berry 44-7. Heath Haden threw three touchdowns to three different receivers for the Colonels, including Max Mazza, who caught 10 passes for 116 yards.

Eric Gargiulo tied a Division III record with five interceptions, adding two pass breakups as Montclair State came away from Southern Virginia with a 35-15 win. The feat was last accomplished by Ben Matthews for Bethel vs. Gustavus Adolphus in September of 2000.

Mike Lefflbine threw three touchdown passes and the St. Lawrence defense forced four turnovers as the Saints defeated RPI, 24-10. St. Lawrence is 5-1, 3-0 in the Liberty League.

Luther's unbeaten run came to a resounding end as Central handled the Norse in a 47-7 win. The Dutch held J.J. Sirios to 53 rushing yards. Hendrix's unbeaten string ended in similar fashion, as Wash U took a 24-0 lead in the first quarter and cruised to a 59-19 win. The Bears put up a season-high 453 yards of total offense.

UW-Oshkosh scored two touchdowns and got a two-point conversion in the final 2:30 of the game to pick up its second win, defeating UW-La Crosse 21-18. Oshkosh had started the season 0-3 against three non-Division III opponents.

Mitch Hendricks was held to a mere mortal 282 yards and three touchdowns on Saturday as Gustavus Adolphus improved to 6-0 with a 37-29 win at St. Olaf.

Morrisville State kept its roll going, winning a fifth game for the first time in the Division III history of the program by defeating Kean 37-31. Cristian Pena had two rushing touchdowns and a receiving score in the win. Tyler Knighton connected on four field goals and the Profs defense picked off William Paterson quarterback Austin Fellows three times in a 33-14 win. Cortland State finally got its first win of the season, and led wire-to-wire in the process, defeating TCNJ 24-14. John Grassi completed 25-of-41 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown for the Red Dragons.

Bluffton handed Rose-Hulman its first loss of the season, limiting Fightin' Engineers quarterback Austin Swenson to 30-for-57 passing and picking him off three times in the win.

Kyle Burlingame threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more as Carroll improved to 5-0 and snapped a 17-game losing streak to St. Norbert, beating the Green Knights 30-6. It's Carroll's best start since 1992.

Connor Falaguerra hauled in a 76-yard touchdown pass from Michael Nichol with 3:26 remaining to lift Western Connecticut to a 30-19 MASCAC victory over Massachusetts Maritime. The Colonials improved to 4-2, 3-1 MASCAC as Nichol threw for 188 yards and ran for 157 more.
