Wartburg continues early-season run

No. 15 Wartburg continued its impressive start to the season as the Knights dominated the third quarter en route to a 31-14 win vs. No. 7 Bethel at home on Saturday afternoon.

Logan Schrader had a fantastic day running the Wartburg offense and the Knights' defense kept Bethel from converting a third down until the fourth quarter in the win. Schrader accounted for 196 yards of total offense in the third quarter alone and ran for two touchdowns on a pair of read option plays to put the Knights up for good. Photos from this game.

Quarterback Sam Riddle came off the bench to throw for 268 yards and two touchdowns and the sophomore ran for the winning score late in the third quarter as No. 5 Linfield rallied to put away Chapman 21-14. Riddle was 17-for-26 passing, which Charlie Poppen had 119 receiving yards on the night.

Thomas More had two 100-yard receivers and Domonique Hayden ran for 166 yards and three touchdowns as the No. 22 Saints rolled at Hanover 45-16. Goose Cohorn caught eight passes for 106 yards and Ryan Winkler had 116 yards and a TD on six catches to help Jensen Gebhardt to a 23-for-28 day.

Fourth-ranked Wesley trucked past its Route 13 rival, as the Wolverines defeated Salisbury 43-5. Steve Koudossou caught seven passes for 117 yards and Jamar Baynard rushed for 87 yards and three touchdowns in the win.

No. 12 Hobart spread the ball around, giving four ballcarriers between six and 11 rushes as the Statesmen defeated Endicott 28-18. Hobart overcame a 26-for-48 day for 221 yards from Drew Frenette. 

Top-ranked UW-Whitewater broke open a close game with a 21-point third quarter as the Warhawks pulled away from Franklin 42-13. Matt Behrendt threw four touchdown passes, three to Jake Kumerow, and Nick Patterson ran for 141 yards and a touchdown in the win.

Nash Nance threw four touchdowns and was sacked just once as the No. 24 Hampden-Sydney Tigers defeated Christopher Newport 35-30 in front of an announced crowd of 7,420 at H-SC. Albion scored on a 61-yard touchdown drive with a minute remaining to cut Illinois Wesleyan's lead to 35-28, but the No. 21 Titans were able to cover the onside kick and hold on to defeat the Britons.

Eighth-ranked UW-Platteville survived in a 26-21 win vs. Dubuque as Andy Puccini ran for 202 yards. Tyler Rutenbeck scored on a 42-yard touchdown catch with 3:46 left but Platteville converted two third downs and was able to run out the clock. No. 13 Johns Hopkins hung on vs. Susquehanna to win 27-20. Braden Anderson threw for just 62 yards but ran for 58 and two touchdowns, while Stuart Walters ran for 124 yards and Brandon Cherry added 99 yards on the ground in the win. No. 11 St. Thomas survived the loss of quarterback Matt O'Connell and rolled over UW-La Crosse.

St. Norbert held a 17-6 lead in the second quarter, but No. 6 North Central scored the last 45 points of the game en route to a 51-17 win. No. 23 Lycoming blanked Albright 26-0 to win its MAC opener. The Warriors held the Lions to 5-for-18 passing and Mike Gentile picked Albright off twice.
