Saturday's Game: Saturday's game is the fifth game of the year for ONU. It is the second consecutive road game for the Polar Bears and the third home game for the Purple Raiders. It is also Homecoming Weekend at Mount Union.
Last Year's Game: Ohio Northern fell 62-0 to #3 Mount Union in Ada. RB Justin Magazine carried the ball 17 times for 51 yards and QB Patrick Angle completed 13-of-25 passes for 42 yards to lead the Ohio Northern offense. ONU honored the Wounded Warrior Project before the game and honored Hall of Fame running back Jamal Robertson at halftime. S Dan Eller had nine tackles and an interception to lead the ONU defense. MtU led 21-0 after the first period, 35-0 at halftime and 59-0 after three quarters. WR Kevin Burke led the MtU offense, completing 20-of-31 passes for 327 yards and three TDs and ran eight times for 65 yards and three more scores.
ONU Last Week: Ohio Northern overcame four turnovers and a 17-point third quarter deficit to post a 30-27 victory at #11 John Carroll on a cold and rainy Sat. QB Will Freed hit WR Justin McCray on a 35-yard TD pass on a 4th-and-20 play with 4:22 left in the game to give the Polar Bears their only lead of the day at 30-27. This marks the fourth time in as many games this year that ONU had faced a double-digit deficit and each time head coach Dean Paul's group has battled back to at least tie the game. Freed completed 17-of-36 passes for 321 yards and 2 TDs and RB Justin Magazine ran 25 times for 84 yards and 2 TDs and caught four passes for 78 yards and a score to lead ONU offensively. CB Will Bodden and S Dan Eller each had a career-high 11 tackles to lead the Polar Bear defense. WR Devon Price caught seven passes for 85 yards and had 206 yards of total offense for ONU. Ohio Northern found itself down 24-7 after a pick-6 just one minute into the second half. But it was all ONU after that as the guests out-scored JCU 23-3 over the final 29 minutes. Ohio Northern out-gained JCU 431-326 in total offense.
ONU Leaders: The ONU running game is led by All-OAC RB Justin Magazine (103 att, 509 yards, 6 TDs) and QB Will Freed (39 att, 87 yards, 2 TDs). QB Will Freed has completed 75-of-129 passes for 1,188 yards and 8 TDs. WR Devon Price (31 rec., 348 yards) and WR Reed Allen (13 rec, 363 yards, 4 TDs) lead the ONU receivers. LB Zach Schmerge, S Dan Eller and LB Trent Stout lead the ONU defense with 47, 37 and 32 tackles, respectively.
MtU Last Week: #2 Mount Union scored on all nine of its possessions in a 62-7 win against Capital at Mount Union Stadium. Mount Union extends its regular season win streak to 97 games dating back to 2005. QB Taurice Scott threw for two scores (10-of-18 passing for 175 yards) and ran for two scores (five carries 88 yards), RB Bradley Mitchell ran for a season-high 131 yards on 11 carries and RB Logan Nemeth had three rushing touchdowns to pace the Raider offense. Capital entered the game with the nation's No. 5 ranked rushing offense, but the MtU defense held the Crusaders to 172 yards on the ground and 199 total yards. DL Tom Lally had nine tackles and a sack.
MtU Leaders: The MtU running game is led this season by RB Bradley Mitchell (41 att., 393 yards, 5 TDs) and RB Logan Nemeth (37 att, 162 yards, 9 TDs). QB Taurice Scott is 54-of-91 passing for 837 yards and 9 TDs. WR Tim Kennedy (21 rec., 237 yards, 1 TD) and WR Roman Namdar (15 rec., 340 yards, 8 TDs) lead the MtU receivers. LB Jonathan Gonell, LB Hank Spencer, DL Tom Lally and DB Alex Kocheff lead the MtU defense with 30, 23, 22 and 22 tackles, respectively. DL Tom Lally leads MtU with 3.5 sacks.
