Saturday's Contest: Saturday's game is the sixth game of the year overall and the fourth home game of the year for ONU. It is the third road game of the year for CU. It marks the beginning of the second half of the season for both teams. Saturday's winner will climb above .500 to 3-2 in the OAC standings.
Last Year's Game: QB Patrick Angle threw for a career-high 398 yards and 4 TDs to lead Ohio Northern to a 38-31 football victory at Capital. Angle accounted for five scores overall, as he completed 24-of-31 passes for 398 yards and ran 11 times for 30 yards and a TD. WR Devon Price caught 11 passes for 170 yards and a TD, WR Reed Allen caught 5 passes for 165 yards and 2 TDs and RB Justin Magazine ran 15 times for 71 yards. ONU out-gained CU in total offense 532-437. ONU out-gained CU 398-65 through the air, but CU out-gained ONU 372-134 on the ground. Brent Walton and Nick Iske led CU, rushing for 144 and 115 yards, respectively. Defensively, DL Mike Cunningham had 9 tackles to lead the ONU defense.
ONU Last Week: Ohio Northern fell 51-7 loss at No. 2 Mount Union on Saturday. RB Justin Magazine carried the ball 14 times for 30 yards and a touchdown and QB Will Freed was 21-of-38 passing for 171 yards to lead the ONU offense.Defensively, S Dan Eller tied a career-high with 12 tackles to lead the Polar Bear defense. Magazine plowed over from 1-yard out with 14 seconds left in the contest to account for Ohio Northern's score. Mt. Union drove 80 yards for a score on its first possession of the game to take a 7-0 lead. Northern drove into MtU territory on both of its first two possessions, but could not get on the score board on either occasion. Pinned deep after a punt by P Kyle Bergman, the Purple Raiders drove 93 yards in 13 plays to take a 14-0 lead with 13:55 left in the half. UMU then drove 80 yards for another score on its next possession to go up 21-0 and a pick-6 later in the period gave Mt Union a 28-0 halftime lead. The Purple Raiders led 37-0 after three periods. UMU out-gained ONU 547-184.
ONU Leaders: The ONU running game is led by All-OAC RB Justin Magazine (118 att, 539 yards, 7 TDs) and QB Will Freed (43 att, 70 yards, 2 TDs). QB Will Freed has completed 96-of-167 passes for 1,359 yards and 8 TDs. WR Devon Price (41 rec., 422 yards) and WR Reed Allen (17 rec, 416 yards, 4 TDs) lead the ONU receivers. LB Zach Schmerge, S Dan Eller and LB Trent Stout lead the ONU defense with 51, 49 and 33 tackles, respectively.
CU Last Week: Capital dropped a 49-34 decision to rival Otterbein in Westerville. RB Brent Walton tied Capital's all-time career rushing yardage mark with 2,287 by ruhing for 23 yards and 2 TDs before ending the day with an injury to tie Rayshaun Gales (2000-02).CU out-gained OU 529-489 in total offense, including a 394-244 advantage on the ground. QB Zak Sheridan ran for a career-best 119 yards and RB Nick Waters ran for 90 yards and 2 scores.
CU Leaders: The CU running game is led this season by RB Brent Walton (90 att., 622 yards, 9 TDs), QB Zak Sheridan (51 att, 275 yards, 2 TDs) and RB Nick Waters (39 att, 223 yards, 2 TDs).
