NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University football team travels to face University of New England for a Commonwealth Coast Football Conference matchup Saturday afternoon.

LAST TIME OUT: Junior linebacker Drew Balestrieri intercepted two passes including one for a pick-six as the Seahawks defense dominated versus Curry College in a 30-21 victory. For his efforts on the defensive side of the ball Balestrieri was named the CCC Defensive player of the Week.

SEAHAWKS NOTES FROM THE NEST

  • OUT OF THIS LEAGUE: With a 2-2 mark in non-league games in 2018, the Seahawks have gone 10-4 in their last 14 such games.
  • CLASS MAKE-UP: Salve Regina class breakdown is - seniors (13), juniors (21), sophomores (27), and freshmen (34).
  • LEAGUE LEADERS: John Salute (7.5), Brandon O'Neill (6.0) lead all CCC players in sacks; Matt Sylvia (7) leads the league in interceptions.
  • TOP 20 AT TOPPA: The Seahawks have scored at least 20 points in five of their six home games since returning to Toppa. Most points ever scored by Salve Regina football at Toppa? (56-0 over Gallaudet on Sept. 18, 1993).

NOR'EASTER NOTES

  • LAST TIME OUT FOR UNE: The Western New England University football team topped the University of New England, 70-13, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) game on Saturday afternoon at Golden Bear Stadium. Joe Curit picked off his third pass of the year deep in UNE territory midway through the opening quarter. Three plays later the Golden Bears returned the favor with an interception of their own leading to a touchdown on their next drive. UNE answered right back as Brian Peters found Ryan Gaboury for a 51-yard touchdown, but a missed extra point made the score 7-6 in favor of Western New England. The Golden Bears took control from there, scoring a touchdown on each of their next nine possessions to build an insurmountable 70-6 lead with 13:19 left to play.
  • ROOKIE RECIEVER: First-year wideout Ryan Gaboury leads the CCC in yards (600), yards per game (100), and yards per catch (16.5). He was this week's Offensive Player of the Week, and two-time Offensive Rookie of the Week so far this season.

INSIDE THE SERIES
This is the first ever meeting between Salve Regina and the University of New England.
