Offense
QB J.J. Sirios, Sr., Luther
Sirios rushed for 224 yards and two touchdowns on
31 carries in Luther's 28-14 win over Dubuque, leading the Norse to
their first 4-0 start since 1987. He also completed both of his
passes for 97 yards, including a 41-yard touchdown strike to Trevor
Joiner.
OL Matt Hochstrasser (LT), LG
Tyler Howlett, C Daven Klein, RG Kendall Wilkerson, RT Andrew
Rodriguez, Texas Lutheran
The Bulldogs' front five paved the way for running back Marquis
Barrolle's school-record rushing day. Barrolle carried the ball 23
times for 288 yards and scored twice. TLU rushed for a total of 373
yards with four rushing TDs in the 54-27 road win over Howard
Payne, more than 120 yards above its season average. The line did
not allow a sack and has allowed only four through five games.
RB Nick O'Neal, Fr.,
Marietta
O'Neal had 42 carries for 286 yards and five touchdowns,
plus two two-point conversions as Marietta defeated Wilmington
47-37. It's the most yards for a Marietta back since 2004 and gave
Marietta a second win for the first time since 2011.
RB Rasheed Williams, Sr., Alfred
State
Williams went over the 1,000-yard mark for the season, rushing for
313 yards and five touchdowns vs. Apprentice. He scored on runs of
69, 68, 3, 48, and 19, averaging 11.6 yards per carry.
WR Rasheed Bailey, Sr., Delaware
Valley
Bailey tied and/or broke single-game school receiving records for
the third time in four games. This time, he broke the yardage mark
with 252 and tied the receving touchdowns mark with four for the
second straight week. His scoring catches went for 11, 35, 52 and
53 yards and he had nine receptions overall in a 56-24 win vs.
Albright.
WR Gunner Gilland, Sr., Buena
Vista
Gilland set Buena Vista single-game records with
15 receptions and 236 receiving yards in the Beavers' 38-31 win
over Simpson. He had 10 first-half receptions, while his three
touchdown catches (2, 5, 26) came in the span of 4:16 in the second
quarter. The last two came 15 seconds apart as the Beavers rallied
for three scores in the final 1:52 of the half to turn a 21-7
deficit into a 28-21 halftime lead.
TE Shane Finnegan, So., St.
Scholastica
Finnegan recorded a career-high five receptions for 110 yards and
a score in the team's win over Northwestern. Three of his five
receptions came in CSS' final two drives with the Saints trailing
by 10. Those three receptions totaled 70 yards including one for a
touchdown that brought CSS within three points.
Defense
DE Marcus Pettigrew, Jr., Westfield
State
Pettigrew led Westfield's stifling defense in a 35-0 win over
Plymouth State, which held the Panthers to just 28 total yards of
offense. Pettigrew racked up two sacks, four tackles for losses,
and seven solo stops among his 10 tackles.
DT Chyron Brown-Wallace, So., St.
Lawrence
Brown-Wallace recorded career-highs in solo (six) and total
tackles (nine), while adding three tackles for a loss and one and a
half sacks in St. Lawrence's 31-6 win over the University of
Rochester. The Rochester, N.Y. native helped the Saints knock off
the Yellowjackets in Fauver Stadium for the first time since
1997.
DE Zach Bell, Sr.,
Millsaps
Bell racked up four and a half tackles for loss and three and a
half sacks among 11 total tackles (nine solo) vs. Hendrix. He was
credited with a pass breakup as well.
LB Alex Latow, Sr.,
Cornell
Latow led a defense that allowed just 67 yards and four first
downs in the second half as the Rams rallied for a 28-27 home win
over St. Norbert. Latow helped stop a St. Norbert two-point
conversion run in the third quarter, proving to be the difference
in the game. He recorded double-digit tackles for the third
consecutive game.
LB Nick Gibson, Sr.,
Wittenberg
Gibson set the tone for the Tigers, as he stripped a Hiram
ballcarrier on the Terriers' fifth play from scrimmage, recovered
the fumble and ran 34 yards for the touchdown. After Wittenberg
made it 14-0 on a fumbled punt recovered in the end zone, Gibson
nearly duplicated his earlier feat, stripping a Hiram ballcarrier,
recovering the fumble and returning it 10 yards, leading to a field
goal. Gibson finished the game with a team-best 11 tackles in a
48-0 win.
LB Avery Richardson, So.,
Pacific
Richardson had a big day defensively, finishing with eight tackles
(six solo) and three sacks in Pacific's 29-15 victory over
Whitworth. He led a Pacific defensive unit that held Whitworth's
high octane offense 160 yards below its average.
LB David Ternes, Sr.,
Grinnell
Ternes broke a school record with 4.5 sacks in a 29-7 victory over
Lawrence. He also had a game-high 15 tackles, including 13 solos,
and broke up a pass as Grinnell won for the first time this
season.
CB Vincent Beltrano, Jr.,
Chicago
Beltrano intercepted a pass in the fourth quarter, and returned it
into Rhodes territory to set up game-winning field goal with 12
seconds left in the game. He also had seven tackles, five solo.
S Yaphay Harvey, Sr.,
Lakeland
Harvey had two interceptions, including a 32-yard return for a TD
in Muskies' 47-7 win over Wisconsin Lutheran. He also finished with
two tackles for loss among his five tackles as Lakeland held WLC to
65 yards of total offense.
S Satiir Stevenson, Sr.,
Guilford
Stevenson recorded a school record 22 tackles (five solor) in a
win over Washington and Lee and picked off a pass for the third
consecutive game. He also had half a tackle for loss.
CB Ryan Anderson, Sr., Buena
Vista
Anderson made seven tackles (two solo) and made two pivotal
interceptions in a 38-31 win over Simpson. He wrestled the first
interception out of the hands of a receiver near midfield, setting
up BVU's final touchdown of the first half. Anderson later
intercepted a pass in the end zone to maintain Buena Vista's 38-31
edge in the fourth quarter.
Special teams
K Tyler Kohman, Fr., Carnegie
Mellon
Kohman turned in his second straight career day in a 27-24 win vs.
Westminster (Pa.). Kohman connected on a 50-yard field goal setting
a school-record on an untimed down to defeat the Titans. Early in
the game, he booted a 20-yard field goal. He was also 3-for-3 on
extra points.
P Nathan Suyematsu, Jr.,
Pacific
Suyematsu played a key role in limiting Whitworth's offensive
production as he had four punts for an average of 41.5 yards per
punt. He landed three punts inside the 20-yard line (plus one
touchback) also long had punts of 61 yards and 45 yards.
ST Brandon James, Sr., Wooster
James blocked a field goal on the first drive of the second half
and later in the third quarter, took the snap on a successful fake
punt and went 46 yards before being pulled down inside the 5 to set
up Wooster's first touchdown. He also led the defense with 12
tackles.
RET Brandon Marquardt, Sr.,
Bethel
Marquardt returned a kickoff for a touchdown for a second
week in a row. This week's was a 96-yarder immediately after
Concordia-Moorhead evened the score against Bethel, deflating any
momentum the Cobbers had built.
