Playing in the mud

In a rare game on grass -- what's left of it -- Rowan lines up for an extra point that would put the Profs up by four points vs. Christopher Newport in the closing minutes and force the Captains to score a TD to win. So when the extra point is blocked, kicker Tyler Knighton isn't about to give up on the conversion. What happens next is the D3football.com Play of the Week.

We solicit video of top plays from every Division III football program and this was our top clip.

Here are some great plays which deserved extra mention:

You've probably seen this, but it's worth another look. The Utica receiver appears to have the catch well in hand, but then the ball comes out and Ithaca's Skyler Kauf is right there to take it away, right off DeRusso's back.

Speaking of playing to the whistle, MacMurray reciver Seth Stanton was wrapped up but not ruled to have gone all the way to the ground, so he got up and continued on his way to the end zone.

Once upon a time, Norwich had a great receiver named Pierre -- never mind that he really made his name at Mount Union. This one, Pierre Noel, makes an amazing catch vs. Becker.

Airborne, huh? Redlands quarterback Kevin Russell makes a nice spin move to get away from a defender in the backfield, then goes over the top at the goal line.
